Job Opportunity: Veteran Support Centre Manager (Job Share)


About Us:

Herefordshire Veteran Support Centre opened its doors in November 2019, following a successful bid by Herefordshire Council to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. Our mission is to provide a friendly, one-stop-shop for anyone from the Armed Forces community needing advice and support. We work closely with military charities and local service providers to match the right kind of support to meet the diverse needs of veterans, serving personnel, their families, carers, and employers.

Position Overview:

This is a 3-year fixed term job share post funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team to job share alongside the existing veteran Support Centre Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of running, maintaining, and marketing the Herefordshire Veteran Support Centre. You will lead a team of volunteers, develop, and maintain partnerships with relevant organizations, and ensure the centre remains a safe, confidential, and supportive environment for our Armed Forces community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of volunteers, ensuring they are matched with the right veterans and receive adequate training.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partner organisations to enhance the services offered at the centre.
  • Report on activities in line with the charity’s business plan and management group directives.
  • Monitor the usage of the centre, develop case studies, and provide statistical evidence to support funding bids and partnership initiatives.
  • Represent the centre at relevant partnership meetings/events and engage with similar initiatives to exchange ideas and enhance our offerings.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of client information and maintain compliance with relevant policies and legislation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or relevant field (e.g., social services, community development), demonstrating excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational and leadership abilities, with a proven track record of team management.
  • Understanding of the needs and challenges faced by the Armed Forces community, along with proficiency in data management and reporting.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge and/or understanding of the military environment, including experience in risk assessment and risk management, particularly regarding safe working practices.
  • Ability to maintain relationships with veterans who may be hesitant to engage with services and proven success in dealing with difficult and challenging situations.
  • Previous experience in developing and delivering events and projects, as well as understanding of working with and/or coordinating volunteers.
  • Awareness of personal and service users’ safety, familiarity with issues of diversity, and the ability to challenge discriminatory attitudes.
  • Experience and/or understanding of operating a facility, along with competence in monitoring projects and establishing administrative and financial information systems.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and computer databases/applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and the internet.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Educational, vocational, and occupational knowledge and skills relevant to veterans’ needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and organisations.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to organize workload with minimum supervision and work to tight deadlines.
  • Highly developed advisory, negotiating, and persuasive skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills.
